How to use chat rooms

Chat is for quick back-and-forth. Open the group's Chat tab.

Rooms

Every group has a room called Everyone in and the group's name. Each Circle you can see has its own room too. Rooms are for everyone who can see them.

Pick a room on the left (on a phone, tap it in the list). Messages appear as they're sent, with no need to refresh.

Send a message

Type in Write a message… and tap Send. On a computer, press Enter to send and Shift+Enter for a new line. Web addresses turn into links.

Tap Earlier messages at the top to scroll back.

Reply to a message

Hover over a message (on a phone, tap it) and tap Reply. Your message shows the one you're answering above it. Tap × to cancel.

Edit or remove

Hover over your message (on a phone, tap it) to see Edit and Remove. Edited messages show "(edited)". Removed ones show "Message removed".

Admins can remove anyone's message in group and Circle rooms.

Unread messages

The Chat tab shows a number when you have unread messages. In the list, each room and conversation shows its own count.

Pin a message

Hover over a message (or tap it on a phone) and tap Pin to keep it at the top of the conversation, like the meeting spot or a Zoom link. One message is pinned at a time; pinning another replaces it, and Unpin clears it. In rooms, Leaders and Admins pin; in direct and group messages, anyone in the conversation can.

Mute

Too chatty? Open the room or conversation and tap Mute at the top. It won't show an unread count, and a muted direct message won't send you emails or phone notifications. Tap Unmute to switch it back.

Voice messages

Tap 🎤 next to the message box and allow the microphone. Talk, then tap the timer to stop (up to 5 minutes). The recording is added like an attachment; tap Send. Voice messages, and videos you attach, play right in the conversation.

Photos and files

Tap 📎 next to the message box to add up to 10 photos or files (up to 25 MB each), then Send. You can add a message too, or send them on their own. Photos show in the conversation; tap one for full size. In a direct message, only the two of you can open them.
