How teen accounts work

Give a teen (13 to 17) their own sign-in, choose how they join teen Circles, turn their direct messages on or off, and see what they post.

Teens 13 to 17 can have their own sign-in, set up by a parent. Students under 13 never get accounts; add them under Students instead.

Give a teen their own sign-in (parents)

  1. Open My family. Under Students, tap Edit on your teen's card. (Add them as a student first if they aren't there.)
  2. Under Their own sign-in, type their email address.
  3. Tick the box to confirm they're 13 to 17 and you're their parent or guardian, then tap Save.

We email them a link. They sign in with that email address, join your household as a teen, and are linked to their student card, so they see their own schoolwork. The link lasts 14 days; you can copy it from their card or Cancel invite.

What teens can do in your groups

  • Read the Feed, calendar, photos and files, like everyone else.
  • Post, comment, react, vote, share photos and chat only in teen Circles they belong to.
  • They can't answer events or sign-up sheets; parents do that for the family.
  • In your household, they can see the planner and records but not change them. They get My work to tick off their own lessons. See How students tick off their own work.

Joining teen Circles

Under Joining teen Circles, choose one for your family:

  • They ask, and a parent approves each one (where everyone starts): your teen taps Ask to join on a teen Circle. You'll see the request on your Home page and under Teens on My family; tap Approve or Decline.
  • They join any teen Circle themselves: they tap Join.
  • Add them to every teen Circle automatically: they're added to each teen Circle in your groups, now and when new ones start.

Group Leaders can also add teens to teen Circles.

Direct messages

Direct messages are off for teens to start. Tap Edit on your teen's student card and tick Can send and get direct messages, then Save. Untick it to stop; their conversations become read-only. You can also let them add their own lessons there.

See what they post

In your teen's student card, tap Edit, then See their posts and comments to see everything they've posted or commented in your groups, newest first. Chat messages aren't included.

Remove a teen's sign-in

In their student card, tap Edit, then Remove their sign-in. They leave your household and your groups; their student profile and records stay. Their sign-in stays until they delete it.
