How to join or leave a group

Groups on Gatherings are private. You join with a link from the group's leaders.

Join

1. Open the invite link from your email or text.
2. Tap Sign in to join and sign in with the emailed link or code.
3. New to Gatherings? Tap Set up your household to join and fill in your family. See How to get started.
4. Tap Join (or Ask to join) with the group's name. Some groups have a short application first (a few questions, some optional), and show their guidelines for you to read and agree to. After you join, find them under the group's name: Group guidelines.

New to Gatherings? Once your household is set up, we take you straight into the group, or back to its questions if it has any.

Right away, or after approval

• Personal invite (sent to your own email): you're in right away.
• Shared link: depending on the group, you're either in right away or an Admin approves you first.

While you wait for approval

The group's Admins hear about your request straight away. Until one of them approves it, the group shows Waiting for approval on your Home page. Tap it to see the group's description and what happens next. We email you (and send a phone notification, if you've turned those on) as soon as you're in.

Changed your mind? Tap the group on Home, then Withdraw request and Yes, withdraw it. Opening the invite link again also takes you to your request.

If the group decides not to add your family, we email you to say so, and the group leaves your Home page.

Something went wrong

• "This invite isn't valid": it has expired or been revoked. Ask the group leader for a new link.
• "This invite was sent to a different email address": personal invites only work for the address they were sent to. Sign out, then sign in with that address.

When your family joins a group, the other parent in your household is in it too.

Leave a group

1. Open the group's Families tab.
2. At the bottom, tap Leave this group…, then Leave with the group's name.

Your whole family leaves and stops getting the group's emails. Your posts and messages stay. To come back, you'll need a new invite. If you own the group, hand it to another Admin in Settings first.
