How to set up your family

Change your household name and area, and add, edit or archive your students.

Your household is your family's home base, whether or not you belong to a group. Open it from My family in the menu (along the top on a computer, along the bottom on a phone). Links at the top jump to each section.

How editing works

Each card shows a summary. Tap Edit on a card to change it, then Save at the bottom of the card, or Cancel changes to leave it as it was.

Household

Tap Edit on Household to change Household name, City or area, or State you homeschool in (Records' State requirements tab then shows your state's homeschool rules). Your household name is how your family shows up in groups. Use a city or area, never a street address.

Students

Each student has their own card with their age, birthday and planner color. For each student we keep only a first name, a birthday (the year is enough) and, if you add one, a photo. Students under 13 never get their own login.

  • Add a student: tap + Add a student, type the first name and birthday, then tap Save.
  • Change a student: tap Edit on their card. Change their name, birthday, photo or Planner color (their lessons show their name in that color in the planner), then tap Save. The month and day of a birthday are optional; see How to track birthdays.
  • Their own sign-in (13 to 17): in the student's card, under Their own sign-in, type their email, tick the box, and tap Save. See How teen accounts work.
  • Archive a student (they've graduated or stopped homeschooling): tap Edit, then Archive. They drop off the planner and group directories, and leave any co-op classes this term or next (we list them first, and the next student on a waitlist gets the spot). Their lessons, reading list and class records stay on Records. Changed your mind? Tap Undo straight away; they'll need to enroll in classes again.
  • Bring a student back, or delete them: open Archived under the list of students. Tap Restore, or Delete to remove the student and all their records for good. Print a year summary first if you need one.

Parents and guardians

Tap Edit to set your photo and birthday (parents can set anyone's birthday). To invite your spouse, see How to add another parent.

Who can change things

Every parent or guardian in the household can change the household and the students. Teens in the household can see it but not change it, except their own birthday.
