How to bring your group's posts and photos over from BAND or GroupMe

Owners and Admins open Settings → Import from BAND or GroupMe, or the link in the moving guide. Pick GroupMe or BAND.

GroupMe

1. Open dev.groupme.com, sign in with your GroupMe account, tap Access Token at the top and copy it.
2. Paste it into GroupMe access token and tap Show my groups. We use the token for this import only and don't save it.
3. Choose Which group? and How far back? (the last 3 months, the last year, or everything up to 20,000 messages). Untick Copy photos too if you only want the messages.
4. Tap Import.

Your chat comes over as one Feed post per day, with each message's time and sender, so a busy chat doesn't bury everything else. Photos go to the post for that day and to the From GroupMe folder in Photos. Members' phone numbers stay in GroupMe. WhatsApp chats can't be imported.

BAND

1. Tap Connect BAND and sign in with BAND. Gatherings can then read your bands for this import; the sign-in lasts an hour.
2. Tap Show my bands, then choose Which band? and Posts from.
3. Choose whether to copy photos, and every photo album (each album becomes a folder in Photos).
4. Tap Import.

Posts come over with their comments, original author names and dates.

While it runs

Keep the page open. You'll see the count of posts, comments or messages and photos go up. Tap Stop at any time: what came over is kept, and running it again picks up the rest without copying anything twice.

Imported posts show the original author's name with a From BAND or From GroupMe label. Families aren't emailed about them, and members can react and comment as usual.

Tell your old group

When it's done, edit the moving message (change the [date]) and tap Post it in GroupMe or Post it in BAND to post it there as you. You need a shareable link on the Invite tab first.

Undo an import

Under Your imports, tap Undo to remove everything that import brought in: posts, their comments (including any added here since) and photos.
